Day 52: August 15, 2011

1 Nephi Chapter 17

Verse 1-3

While Nephi and his family are traveling and going through hard times, the Lord provides for them. As they are obedient and keep his commandments he strengthened them. I need to remember that in my life. I have face challenges and hard times but when I am faithful and trust in the Lord he will strengthen me so that I am able to accomplish whatever he asks of me. What a blessing.

Day 51: August 3, 2011

1 Nephi Chapter 16

Verses18-20

While traveling in the wilderness Nephi breaks his bow and because his brothers’ bows were also broken, they were hard on finding food. Every member of his family started to murmur and complain about this. Even Lehi complained about this trial. I think I am too quick to complain about a tough situation. I sometimes, most of the time, do not look at it as an opportunity to learn. Continued in the reading I know that Nephi took the opportunity to make a new bow and keep doing what he knew needed to be done. He is a great example of strength and faith and I want to be more like him.

Verse 28

Lehi and his family were given the liahonna in this chapter. This verse teaches us that the liahonna worked according to their diligence and faith. As they did their best to keep the commandments and to follow the words of the Lord, the ball led them in the direction they needed to go. I am promised direction and guidance from the Holy Ghost as I am obedient and faithful. I am so grateful for that gift and know that I take it for granted sometimes. It’s something I need to strive to follow more.

Day 50: August 2, 2011

1 Nephi Chapter 16

Verse 1-5:

After Nephi finishes talking to his brothers about the vision they are left murmuring saying that it’s hard for them to understand. They were angry about the things. Nephi tries to calm them and tells them to keep the commandments, knowing that true happiness and understanding is found in being obedient. I have had some struggles and have been feeling negative and that things are hard. I had a heart to heart with my dad last night and I realized that I have the help I need to overcome some of my challenges. Now, my challenges are not because of sin, but I know that in continued obedience and diligence in doing what is right I will be able to be overcome. After Nephi pleads with them, they become humble and desire to do right. I too have been humbled in realizing that I need help and I have a desire to be more positive and trust in the Lord more. Very grateful for my dad and his wise council. I love my family!

Day 49: August 1, 2011

1 Nephi Chapter 15

Verse 25

Nephi exhorts his brothers to heed the word of the Lord. I decided I wanted to look up exactly what it means to heed something. According to the online dictionaries heed means to pay attention, to give consideration or attention. Some of the synonyms were follow, listen to, mind, note, observe, regard, watch. I think it’s more than just hearing. I think that’s the first part of heeding the lord. We must hear the words which he speaks. He can hear his words by reading the scriptures, going to church, and by listening to the words of his prophets. But beyond just hearing, we have to act upon them. We have to move forward making sure that we follow them and incorporate his words in our daily life. We need to live the things which he teaches. It is when we begin to heed his words that we will be able to follow the path which leads to his heavenly home above.
